Sirens: 'Put money in the bag,' customer tells barista in 'bad joke'; Angry customer shouts at employees; Men try to sell fake jewelry

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Criminal trespass 

• Two homeless people from Winlock who were found sleeping on the picnic tables of a restaurant  in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue at 8:55 a.m. on Oct. 2 were trespassed from the business. 

• A woman reportedly trespassed at a business in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just before 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 2. She left the area before officers arrived. 

• A homeless man from Centralia was trespassed from a business in the 110 block of South Silver Street at approximately 2 p.m. on Oct. 2. 

 

Vehicle collisions 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision that resulted in minor damage to both vehicles was reported in the 900 block of Alder Street at approximately 9:05 a.m. on Oct. 2. 

• A two-vehicle collision with injuries was reported in the 300 block of North Pearl Street at 7:40 p.m. on Oct. 2. The incident was investigated, according to the Centralia Police Department, which did not disclose information on who was injured in the crash or the extent of their injuries. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run to a fence in the 600 block of West Cherry Street was reported just after 10:35 a.m. on Oct. 2. 

 

Possession of stolen property 

• A 40-year-old Centralia woman was arrested in the 900 block of North Tower Avenue at 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 2 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Fraud 

• A case involving the unlawful issuance of bad checks was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 29. The case is under investigation. 

• Male subjects were reportedly “trying to sell fake jewelry” out of a white SUV in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 10:10 a.m. on Oct. 2. Responding officers were unable to find the vehicle in the area. 

 

Theft 

• Just after 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 29, a caller reported someone siphoned gas out of his vehicle in the 10 block of Northeast Cascade Avenue sometime overnight. 

• A subject reportedly cut the security tags off of clothes inside a store in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and stole the clothing just after 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 30. 

• A male subject reportedly shoplifted a cart full of items from a store in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 30. 

• A second-degree theft reported in the 300 block of Southeast Hillsdale Lane just before 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 30 is under investigation. 

• Two alleged shoplifters were cited for second-degree burglary in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 10:15 p.m. on Sept. 30. 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 10 block of Southwest Fifth Street just before 1:25 p.m. on Oct. 1 is under investigation. 

• A male subject was cited for shoplifting in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 1. He was trespassed from the business for life. 

• Just after 3:25 p.m. on Oct. 1, a caller in the 1000 block of Northwest Prindle Street reported “her son (is) stealing money from her.” 

• Identity theft was reported in the 1500 block of Southwest Snively Avenue just after 10:20 a.m. on Oct. 3. 

• At 2:25 p.m. on Oct. 3, a caller in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported “he was just … robbed $400 by the voice in his head.”

• A theft that occurred in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way on Sept. 29 was reported at 3:40 p.m. on Oct. 3. 

• A red 1991 Honda Civic was reported stolen from the 100 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just after 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 4. The vehicle was last seen at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 3. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly “ranting and raving in the area” of the 100 block of Southwest Sixth Street at 10:10 a.m. on Sept. 29. 

• A verbal dispute at a gas station in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue was reported just before 1:05 p.m. on Sept. 29. 

• A “loud and belligerent fella” was reportedly acting disorderly in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Sept. 30. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A subject was reportedly “messing around with some property and a travel trailer” in the 10 block of Southeast Fairview Avenue just after 1:25 p.m. on Sept. 29. 

• A man found sleeping under a Twin Transit bus stop in the 300 block of Northwest North Street at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Sept. 29 was trespassed from all Twin Transit bus stops. 

• Four homeless people were reportedly trespassing in a construction site at the intersection of North National Avenue and Northeast Coal Creek Road just after 4:55 p.m. on Sept. 30. 

• A male subject who was reportedly “loitering, being loud, (and) bothering customers and employees” at a business in the 1500 block of North National Avenue just before 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 30 was trespassed from the business for life. 

• A group of approximately seven teenagers was reportedly trespassing at a vacant property in the 300 block of Southeast Carlesta Avenue just before 3:55 p.m. on Oct. 1. 

• An “angry customer” was reportedly “shouting at employees” of a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 1. The subject was trespassed from the property. 



• A homeless woman was reportedly moved along from a property in the 800 block of South Market Boulevard just after 8 p.m. on Oct. 1. The property owner asked law enforcement to trespass her from the property if she returns. 

• A male subject was cited for trespassing in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 11:25 a.m. on Oct. 2. 

• A male subject was reportedly trespassing in a vacant house in the 200 block of Southwest Lewis Street at approximately 6:20 a.m. on Oct. 3. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, non-blocking, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 2100 block of Jackson Highway just after 3 p.m. on Sept. 29. 

• A non-injury, non-blocking, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Southeast Washington Avenue and Southeast Sixth Street at approximately 1:35 p.m. on Oct. 1. 

• A non-injury, non-blocking, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 9:50 a.m. on Oct. 3. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run that occurred in the 600 block of North National Avenue on Sept. 29 was reported just after 7:40 a.m. on Oct. 1. 

 

Suspicious circumstances 

• Just before 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 29, a caller reported two male subjects in two separate pickup trucks pulled up in front of the caller’s residence in the 600 block of Northwest Folsom Street and exchanged bags of golf clubs before one of the subjects urinated out of the vehicle door. The subjects reportedly left “a plastic tub with what looks like a dead animal” behind before driving off. 

• A “strange male” in all black clothing was reportedly “waving in the air” near a school bus stop at the intersection of Southwest James Street and Southwest Pacific Avenue at 3:50 p.m. on Sept. 29. 

• Possible gunshots were reportedly heard in the 200 block of Southwest 16th Street just before 7:40 p.m. on Sept. 29. 

• Just after 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 29, an employee at a coffee shop in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue reported a male customer “told baristas to put money into a bag but then bought a coffee instead.” The subject reportedly told the employee “it was a bad joke.” 

• A “suspicious male” was reportedly “hiding between the trees between apartments and (the) mechanic shop” in the 100 block of North Market Boulevard just before 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 29. The subject was ultimately arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail. 

• Just after 4:45 a.m. on Sept. 30, a caller reported an unknown male subject was at their residence in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street “demanding that (the caller) let him in the apartment,” telling the caller “someone sent him there.” The subject left the area before officers arrived. 

• A suspicious male subject was reportedly “walking around cars and looking at them” in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just before 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 30. 

• Just before 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 1, a caller reported someone was “possibly jumping from the Chamber Way bridge” in the 500 block of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way. 

• Just after 11:20 a.m. on Oct. 2, a caller reported “she is being stalked” inside a store in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. The caller advised this “has been an ongoing issue for five years.” Responding officers confirmed no crime had occurred. 

• At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 3, a caller reported his ex was banging on the front door of his residence in the 200 block of Northeast Sky Lane and had possibly damaged his vehicle. 

• Just after 8:35 p.m. on Oct. 3, a caller in the 100 block of Southwest William Avenue reported her child’s father “left her daughter at someone else’s house to stay because he doesn’t want her.” The father had reportedly dropped the child off at a friend’s house. 

 

Animal abuse/neglect 

• A case of ongoing neglect of a dog was reported in the 900 block of Southwest William Avenue just after 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 1. 

 

Recovered vehicle 

• A call regarding a stolen vehicle that was abandoned in the 300 block of Southwest Riverside Drive several months prior was made at 7:25 p.m. on Oct. 1. The vehicle’s owner relinquished ownership of the vehicle several months prior, and the vehicle is set to be impounded. 

 

Overdose 

• An overdose was reported in the 10 block of Northeast Division Street at approximately 8 a.m. on Oct. 2. The subject was administered one dose of Narcan. 

 

Assault 

• At approximately 2:10 a.m. on Oct. 3, a third-degree assault that occurred against a staff member at a facility in the 1200 block of Southwest Pacific Avenue at about 8:05 p.m. on Oct. 2 was reported. Charges against a suspect were referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office. 

• A fight between two students in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way was reported at approximately 9:55 a.m. on Oct. 3. At least one of the students was referred to a prosecutor’s office for fourth-degree assault. 

• A possible physical assault was reported at the intersection of Northeast Alaskan Way and Northeast Grove Street just before 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 29. 

 

Juvenile problem 

• At 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 3, a caller in the 200 block of Southeast Prospect Street reported finding an “unknown juvenile female” sleeping in her daughter’s room while her daughter was at school. The state Department of Children, Youth and Families took the juvenile into custody. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 155 inmates, including 142 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 108 were reported male and 34 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
