Sirens: Shooting With Bows and Arrows; DUI Arrests; Stolen Credit Cards; Assault With Hammer

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Physical Disputes 

• A physical dispute was reported at the intersection of North Gold and East Magnolia streets at 10:25 a.m. on April 21. 

• A physical dispute where a male struck a female in the arm with a hammer was reported in the 1600 block of Reynolds Avenue just after 4:25 p.m. on April 21. All involved parties reportedly fled the area before officers arrived and officers were unable to identify or locate the victim.  Officers were told the male had also struck the female the day prior, but a person “in charge” had dealt with it by “splitting the male’s head open.” 

• A physical dispute where a male hit a female was reported in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue at 5:50 p.m. on April 21. All parties left the scene before officers arrived. 

• Officers responded to the report of a physical domestic dispute in an apartment complex in the 500 block of Tower Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. on April 22. The suspect left before officers arrived and the case is being referred to Centralia Municipal Court for a warrant.

• A Centralia man was arrested in the 700 block of J Street at 7:40 p.m. on April 23 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, following a physical altercation. 

 

Stolen Vehicles 

• A 1996 Ford Explorer was reported stolen from the intersection of North Pearl and West Magnolia streets just before 1:15 p.m. on April 21. 

• Officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in the 1100 block of West Main Street just before 6:10 a.m. on April 22, but the driver drove over a curb and into oncoming traffic and officers did not pursue. The vehicle went northbound on the freeway where the driver also fled from Thurston County Deputies, according to the Centralia Police Department. 

• Just after 8:40 a.m. on April 22, a silver 2001 Honda CRV was reported stolen from the 1400 block of Lewis Street sometime overnight. 

• A Honda CRV that was reported stolen out of Olympia was recovered in the 2800 block of Russell Road just after 9:30 a.m. on April 22. 

• The Flock Safety System alerted officers of a stolen RV in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 11:45 a.m. on April 23. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and book the driver, a Centralia man, into the Lewis County Jail. The RV was reported stolen out of Puyallup. 

Other Theft 

• A 36-year-old Rochester man was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail at 3:50 a.m. on April 22 following an investigation into stolen credit cards. The cards were reported stolen in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just before 5:10 p.m. on April 20. The suspect is accused of stealing the 90-year-old victim’s credit cards and using them to buy merchandise at the Centralia Outlets. 

• A Tacoma resident was cited for shoplifting clothes from an outlet in the 1400 block of Lum Road at 1:40 p.m. on April 23. 

• A homeless man from Bellingham was cited for shoplifting deli food from a grocery store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just before 2:50 p.m. on April 23. 

 

Vehicle Accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue just before 1:25 p.m. on April 21. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of East Summa and South Gold streets just before 8:30 p.m. on April 23. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Belmont and Harrison avenues just after 7:35 a.m. on April 24. 

 

Hit-and-Run 

• A Centralia man was cited for a hit-and-run reported in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. on April 22. 

 

DUI 

• A juvenile female was arrested in the 2000 block of Reynolds Avenue just before 10:35 p.m. on April 23 and was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for allegedly driving under the influence after she was involved in a collision. 

• James L. Clark IV, 28, of Centralia, was arrested at the intersection of West Maple and North Iron streets and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence after officers pulled him over for driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

 

Criminal Trespass 

• A homeless man from Bellingham was asked to leave a bank in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 4:35 p.m. on April 21 after he was reportedly inside “rambling, not making sense and making customers feel uncomfortable.” 

• A homeless man from Toledo who was reportedly setting up camp on a property in the 600 block of North Tower Avenue just after 8:05 a.m. on April 22 was “moved along.” 

 

Wellness Check 

• Officers were asked to check on a homeless man who was reportedly “yelling and screaming at no one” at the intersection of Caveness Drive and Harrison Avenue just before 1:50 p.m. on April 22. The man, who was from Winlock, “said he was fine,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Stolen Vehicles 

• At 9:50 a.m. on April 21, a trailer was reported stolen from the 2100 block of North National Avenue at about 7:50 p.m. the day prior.  



• A stolen U-Haul was returned to its owner in the 1200 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 3:30 p.m. on April 21. 

 

Other Theft 

• Just before 12:50 p.m. on April 21, items were reported stolen out of a vehicle in the 1000 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue sometime the day prior. 

• Two unidentified male subjects reportedly stole a battery from the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 10:15 a.m. on April 22. 

• A subject reportedly stole $200 from someone in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. on April 22. 

 

Disorderly Conduct 

• A disorderly man was reportedly “yelling and cursing” and “making hand gestures at people” in the 1200 block of Bishop Road at approximately 12:10 p.m. on April 21. 

 

Dispute 

• A “disturbance/dispute” reported in the 1200 block of Southwest Pacific Avenue just after 1:35 p.m. on April 21 is under investigation. 

 

Vehicle Accident 

• Injuries were reported following a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest State Avenue just after 3:50 p.m. on April 21. 

 

Hit-and-Run 

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of Northwest New York Avenue and Northwest West Street at approximately 9:45 a.m. on April 23. 

 

Shooting With Bows and Arrows

• Just after 4:30 p.m. on April 21, a caller reported two subjects were shooting with bows and arrows at a target near a baseball field in the 1500 block of Rice Road. Officers confirmed the two adult subjects were using bows and arrows designed for children, were aiming them at a downward angle and the arrows that did have tips were blunt. “There is not any possibility of the arrow going 100+ yards to where the kids are,” according to the Chehalis Police Department. 

 

Possible Gunshots 

• A caller in the 700 block of Northwest West Street reported hearing possible gunshots and a scream from a nearby house at 9:35 p.m. on April 21. No injuries were reported and no arrests were made after officers followed up on the report. 

 

Criminal Trespass 

• A subject was removed from a property in the 500 block of Northwest St. Helens Avenue just after 4:50 p.m. on April 21. 

 

Malicious Mischief 

• The window of a vehicle was reported broken in the 800 block of West Main Street at 8:30 a.m. on April 22. 

 

Attempted Burglary 

• At 3:15 p.m. on April 22, a caller in the 600 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue reported an attempted burglary occurred at their residence sometime overnight. The subject did not make it inside, but the caller reported finding damage to their front door frame. 

 

Assault 

• A group of two to three teenagers were reportedly assaulting a homeless man in the 200 block of Southwest Riverside Drive at 7:15 p.m. on April 22. No arrests were made. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 172 inmates, including 157 in the general population and 15 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 122 were reported male and 35 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and three were reported female.
