Sirens: Shoplifters Jailed; 'Highly Intoxicated and Out of Control' Man Arrested; Noise Complaints; Hit-and-Run

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• Officers responded to a grocery store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at 8:25 a.m. on July 4 after there was a report “two people (were) acting suspicious like they were going to shoplift,” according to the Centralia Police Department. While an officer was on site, the two subjects — a 26-year-old Tenino man and a 19-year-old Longview man — allegedly shoplifted and were detained. The two are also accused of stealing from a store in Chehalis. A search warrant on the subjects’ vehicle resulted in officers finding and seizing drugs and drug paraphernalia. Both subjects were booked into the Lewis County Jail on third-degree theft charges. A third subject, a 44-year-old Longivew man, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. 

• An unhoused Chehalis resident was arrested in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 6:25 p.m. on July 4 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for shoplifting and outstanding warrants. 

 

Vehicle Collision 

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road at 3:05 p.m. on July 4. 

 

Hit-and-Run 

• Witnesses reported seeing a gray hatchback hit a tan full-sized van at the intersection of South King and West Pear streets and flee the scene just after 3:50 p.m. on July 4. 

 

Assault 

• Officers were called to a party in the 2400 block of Howard Avenue at approximately 10:45 p.m. on July 4 for a report of a disorderly male “who was highly intoxicated and out of control,” according to the Centralia Police Department.  While trying to help the male to a car to be taken home, the male, a 52-year-old Elma man, allegedly attempted to assault an officer. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail and had a preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court for a third-degree assault charge scheduled for 4 p.m. on July 5. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Suspicious Circumstances 

• Just after 8:05 a.m. on July 3, a caller reported finding a “shirt tied to a rock with a note saying ‘Help’” at the main entrance of the Lewis County Public Health and Social Services building in the 300 block of Northwest North Street. 

 



Fraud 

• Fraudulent charges on an account were reported in the 300 block of Southeast Park Hill Drive just before 3:10 p.m. on July 3. 

 

Theft 

• A red 1992 Nissan truck was reported stolen from the 200 block of Southwest William Avenue just after 3:10 p.m. on July 3. 

• Approximately 30 totes were reported stolen from the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just after 8:35 p.m. on July 3. 

• At 8:25 a.m. on July 4, there was a report that two subjects, a male and a female, shoplifted from a store in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. At least one of the subjects was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree theft. 

 

Noise Complaint 

• A caller reported hearing what “sounds like gunshots” in the 10 block of Southwest 12th Street just before 1:10 a.m. on July 4. No other shooting reports were made in the area, but there were multiple fireworks complaints, according to the Chehalis Police Department. 

 

Hit-and-Run 

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just after 8:35 a.m. on July 4. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 173 inmates, including 158 in the general population and 15 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 125 were reported male and 33 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 13 were reported male and two were reported female.
