Sirens: Snatch-and-Grab; Vehicle Prowls; Trespassing

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Snatch-and-Grab 

• Multiple male suspects reportedly entered several local businesses in the 1300 block of Lum Road and stole thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise in a “snatch and grab” incident then left the area in a light colored Volkswagen just before 12:45 p.m. on April 3. A responding officer spotted the vehicle as the suspects were attempting to get on northbound Interstate 5. The suspect vehicle reportedly changed direction to head toward the downtown area and when the officers attempted to stop it, the driver took off at a high rate of speed while swerving around traffic and into oncoming lanes. The officers did not pursue. 

Vehicle Prowl 

• Property was reported stolen out of a vehicle in the 900 block of G Street just after 12:35 p.m. on April 1. 

• Two batteries were reported stolen out of a vehicle that was parked within a fenced area in the 600 block of North Tower Avenue just after 1:55 p.m. on April 2. The chainlink fence and a post where the suspect supposedly entered was damaged. 

• At approximately 10:30 a.m. on April 3, a vehicle prowl that occurred at a parking lot in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue sometime overnight was reported. 

• Gas was reported stolen out of a parked vehicle in the 1300 block of Alexander Street just after 4:50 p.m. on April 3. The victim indicated the gas thefts occurred over the course of the last month as he noticed he was going through more gas than usual, according to police. 

• Clothing was reported stolen from a business in the 1400 block of Lum Road just after 4:55 p.m. on April 4. The two suspects, a man and a woman, were last seen fleeing the parking lot in a white, four-door Nissan Maxima with no rear license plate and with damage to the left side of the rear bumper. 

Other Theft 

• An Olympia man was cited for shoplifting in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just before 8:50 p.m. on April 1. 

• Tools were reported stolen out of a shed in the 700 block of Euclid Way just before 9:55 a.m. on April 3. 

• Tools were reported stolen out of a residence in the 1000 block of North Washington Avenue just before 4:45 p.m. on April 3. 

Trespassing 

• A Centralia man was referred to the prosecutor’s office for possible second-degree burglary charges at approximately 8:30 p.m. on April 2 after he was found inside an apartment in the 1400 block of Lewis Street that he was trespassed from via a court-mandated protection order.  

• A Longview man was cited for trespassing in the 900 block of West First Street just after 3:40 a.m. on April 3. 

Damaged Plexiglass 

• Intentional damage to a plexiglass partition at a business in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue was reported at 9:30 a.m. on April 3. 

DUI 

• Robert L. Orr, 21, of Centralia, was arrested in the 900 block of Seminary Hill Road just after 1:25 a.m. on April 2 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence after his vehicle went off the roadway and crashed into landscaping bricks at a local residence. 

Assault 

• A Centralia man was referred to the prosecutor’s office for possible fourth-degree assault, domestic violence charges after officers responded to an incident in the 1000 block of B Street at 12:50 a.m. on April 4. 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Disorderly Conduct 

• A customer at a business in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reportedly got into a verbal altercation with an employee because he was “upset over the pizza deals” and was trespassed from the business just before 11:20 a.m. on April 1. 



Dispute 

• A man reportedly “pulled a knife” on a woman outside a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 12:30 p.m. on April 1. No arrests were made. 

Crashes 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 100 block of North Market Boulevard just before 2:15 p.m. on April 1. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and North National Avenue at 10:05 a.m. on April 2. 

• A non-injury vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of Bishop Road and Interstate Avenue at approximately 4:40 a.m. on April 3. 

Harassment 

• A case of harassment was reported in the 200 block of Southeast Washington Avenue at 2:35 p.m. on April 1. 

• A case of phone harassment was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Fourth Street just after 5 a.m. on April 3. 

DUI 

• A possible case of driving under the influence was reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street at 3:20 p.m. on April 1. The caller reported seeing the driver “drinking a container of vodka as he’s driving.” No arrests were made. 

Hit-and-Run 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 500 block of West Main Street just after 4:05 p.m. on April 1. 

Theft 

• A dog house was reported stolen from a gravel lot in the 100 block of Northeast Coal Creek Road at 8:35 p.m. on April 1. 

• A subject was cited for shoplifting in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 12:35 p.m. on April 2. 

• A theft reported in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1:40 p.m. on April 2 is under investigation. 

• A subject was arrested in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 6:15 p.m. on April 2 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary after they allegedly opened packages with a knife inside a business. 

• A catalytic converter theft was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 7:35 p.m. on April 2. 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 5:25 p.m. on April 3 is under investigation. 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS 

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 165 inmates, including 144 in the general population and 21 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 116 were reported male and 28 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 19 were reported male and two were reported female.
