Sirens: Student steals bus driver's debit card; employee accused of pulling gun on customer; counterfeit money reported

Suspicious circumstances

• A citizen reported seeing someone lying face down in a parking lot in the 1600 block of North National Avenue at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 13.

• Just after 10:40 a.m. on Sept. 13, a Chehalis Middle School parent reported the school had called to inform her some students were possibly planning to wait for her daughter after school with the intent of assaulting her.

• A man was seen carrying “a big spool of copper wire” in the 800 block of West Main Street just after 11:05 p.m. on Sept. 13. The man advised he got it from a dumpster and did not steal it.

• A possibly stolen vehicle was located in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 1:20 a.m. on Sept. 14.

• A man was reportedly seen carrying a machete on a bicycle in the 600 block of Northwest Arkansas Way just after 11:35 p.m. on Sept. 14.

• A man was reportedly shooting birds with a BB or pellet gun in the 500 block of Northeast Jefferson Avenue at 3:25 p.m. on Sept. 15.

• A woman reported someone was following her vehicle with their flashers on and appeared to be videotaping her in the 1500 block of North National Avenue just before 6:50 p.m. on Sept. 15. She was given a courtesy transport to Interstate 5.

• A resident in the 10 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue reported someone was “rattling her front door” just before midnight on Sept. 15.

• A man was reportedly waving a machete around in the 1300 block of Northwest State Avenue just before 5:05 p.m. on Sept. 16.

• A possible attempted burglary was reported in the 1700 block of North National Avenue at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 18.

• A man was reportedly “acting erratic, going up to people’s cars, asking for people’s phones and muttering to himself” in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 5:35 a.m. on Sept. 20.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A woman was reportedly being disorderly in front of the Lewis County Law and Justice Center in the 300 block of West Main Street at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Sept. 13.

• A man was reportedly throwing objects onto the freeway from the overpass in the 600 block of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just before 4 p.m. on Sept. 13.

• A man was reportedly filming people and being argumentative inside a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Sept. 13.

• A man was reportedly yelling and screaming inside a vehicle in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 7:35 p.m. on Sept. 14. The reporting party said they didn’t think the man should be driving, but responding Washington State Patrol troopers observed no signs of impairment.

• An ex-employee was reportedly “cussing” at current employees of a business in the 1500 block of Northwest State Avenue at 9:25 a.m. on Sept. 16.

• A disorderly man was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5:05 p.m. on Sept. 16.

• A man was reportedly harassing a city street department employee in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 18.

 

Theft

• A subject was cited for shoplifting in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 10:50 a.m. on Sept. 13.

• Just after 11:10 a.m. on Sept. 13, a Chehalis School District bus driver reported a W.F. West High School student stole the bus driver’s debit card from her wallet on Sept. 11, used it at a vending machine and later returned it to her purse. The bus driver advised she did not want to press charges, but wanted the juvenile “to learn that stealing is a serious issue.” The school has notified a guardian and will handle the student’s discipline, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A man was arrested for shoplifting in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 4:55 p.m. on Sept. 14.

• Two men, one of whom was wearing an ankle monitor, reportedly shoplifted from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1:35 p.m. on Sept. 15.

• A shoplift was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 16.

• Just after 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 17, a bicycle was reported stolen from the 400 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue sometime overnight.

• A customer at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue was cited for theft after she allegedly scanned barcodes for cheaper items when buying expensive merchandise just after 8:25 p.m. on Sept. 17.

• A subject was cited for third-degree theft in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at 9:25 p.m. on Sept. 17.

• A theft reported in the 200 block of Southwest 10th Street just before 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 18 is under investigation.

• A subject reportedly stole dog food and possibly clothing from a business in the 1000 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue just before 7:25 p.m. on Sept. 18.

 

Assault 

• A possible domestic violence assault was reported in the 800 block of Southwest 20th Street just after 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 13.

• A dementia patient at a facility in the 2100 block of Southwest Woodland Circle reportedly tried to attack another patient and possibly broke a staff member’s finger at 10:35 a.m. on Sept. 19.

 

Hit-and-run

• A minor hit-and-run was reported in the 500 block of Southwest William Avenue at 12:50 p.m. on Sept. 13.

• A hit-and-run reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Sept. 13 is under investigation.

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 5:35 p.m. on Sept. 16.

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5:35 p.m. on Sept. 17.

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of West Main Street and Norhtwest Cascade Avenue at 3:50 p.m. on Sept. 19.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 2:10 p.m. on Sept. 14.

• An 18-year-old male pedestrian sustained possible head, arm and leg injuries after he was hit by a car in the 2500 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Sept. 14. He was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

• Possible minor injuries were reported after a vehicle crashed into a ditch in the 1000 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 18.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northeast Boistfort Street and Northeast Washington Avenue just after 5:05 p.m. on Sept. 18.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just after 4:25 p.m. on Sept. 19.

• A 22-year-old male pedestrian sustained injuries to his shoulder and face after he was struck by a vehicle in the 300 block of Northwest State Street at 6:05 a.m. on Sept. 20.

 

DUI

• A man was arrested for DUI after he cut off a semi truck, drove erratically and almost got into a head-on collision in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 1:55 p.m. on Sept. 14.

 

Criminal trespass

• A man who was “loitering and cussing/yelling” at a business in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 4:35 p.m. on Sept. 13 was trespassed from the property for five years.

• A subject who was possibly doing drugs outside a business in the 600 block of Northwest Arkansas Way just before 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 24 was trespassed from the business.

• A subject was arrested for trespassing at a residence in the 800 block of Southwest William Avenue just after 3:05 a.m. on Sept. 17.

• A subject was cited for trespassing in the 500 block of Northeast Adams Avenue just after 2:55 p.m. on Sept. 17.

• A man was reportedly looking through windows on a property in the 10 block of Northeast 11th Street just after 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 17.

• A man was arrested for trespassing in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 7:05 a.m. on Sept. 18.



• A caller asked for subjects to be trespassed from a residence in the 100 block of Southwest Sixth Street just after 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 18.

• A criminal trespass was reported in the 400 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue just after 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 19.

• A resident in the 100 block of Southwest Sixth Street reported a stranger was sleeping in her living room just before 9:05 a.m. on Sept. 19. The reporting party said she believed the male suspect entered through a window. She reported he had been in her house more than once and had refused to leave.

• A homeless man was trespassed from a mall in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way just before 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 19 after he was reportedly found naked and bathing himself in the mall’s public bathroom.

• A criminal trespass reported in the 100 block of Southwest 11th Street just after 6:50 a.m. on Sept. 20 is under investigation.

 

Malicious mischief

• A man reportedly hit the hood of a vehicle with a broomstick in the 600 block of West Main Street at 10:20 p.m. on Sept. 14. He was cited for third-degree malicious mischief.

• Damage to a window in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard was reported just before 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 16.

 

Disputes

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 100 block of Southwest 12rh Street just before 10:35 p.m. on Sept. 14.

• A neighborhood dispute was reported in the 100 block of Southwest 20th Street just before 6:05 p.m. on Sept. 15.

• A domestic dispute involving a resident in the 100 block of Northeast School Street kicking their roommate out was reported just after 9:55 p.m. on Sept. 16.

• A customer at a business in the 200 block of South Market Boulevard reported an employee pulled a gun on him just before 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 in response to a driving dispute. The employee was heard on the background of the call denying the allegation that he pulled a gun on the customer. No arrests were made.

• A physical dispute was reported in the 300 block of Northwest Georgia Avenue just before 8:10 p.m. on Sept. 19.

 

Eluding

• A subject reportedly eluded police at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 11 a.m. on Sept. 16.

 

Harassment

• A customer at a business in the 400 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue reported her belief that the business was discriminating against her because the business claimed it had footage of her stealing but would not provide her with the video.

• A citizen reported someone “was watching her” in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 16. She was advised to seek a civil anti-harassment order.

 

Obstructing a public servant

• A subject was cited for obstructing a public servant at the intersection of North National Avenue and Northeast Coal Creek Road at noon on Sept. 18.

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Assault

• A student was arrested for assaulting another student at Centralia Middle School at approximately 11 a.m. on Sept. 18.

• A juvenile was arrested for assaulting two people in the 1300 block of Reynolds Avenue just before 7:25 p.m. on Sept. 19.

 

Theft

• Rental property was reported stolen from the 1400 block of South Gold Street at 12:50 p.m. on Sept. 18. The case is under investigation.

• Clothing was reported stolen from an outlet store in the 1400 block of Lum Road just before 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 18.

• A male suspect reportedly stole two cases of beer from a store in the 400 block of East Summa Street just after 5:35 p.m. on Setp. 18.

• Approximatley $160 worth of property was reported stolen during a burglary in the 1000 block of North Washington Street just after 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 19. The case is under investigation. 

• Merchandise was reported stolen from a store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 19. The case is under investigation.

 

Fraud

• Counterfeit money was reportedly used at a convenience store in the 400 block of East Sumam Street just after 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 18. The case is under investigation.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run to a parked vehicle in the 900 block of K Street just before 2:05 a.m. on Sept. 19 is under investigation.

 

Drug violation

• A juvenile reportedly had a vape pen containing suspected marijuana at Centralia Middle School at approximately 8:55 a.m. on Sept. 19. The marijuana was seized and charges are being referred to the Lewis County juvenile prosecutor, according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Criminal trespass

• A disorderly Centralia man was trespassed from a business in the 1300 block of South Gold Street just after 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the business’ request.

• A homeless Centralia man was trespassed from a business in the 300 block of West Main Street just before 1:25 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the business’ request.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Wednesday morning and Friday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 27 illness-related calls, 10 injury-related calls, nine fire-related calls, one non-emergency service call, seven vehicle accidents, one overdose and four other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 157 inmates, including 144 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 118 were reported male and 26 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Friday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 20 inmates, including eight booked by the Centralia Police Department, seven booked by the state Department of Corrections, three booked by the Lummi Nation, one booked by the City of Elma and one booked by the City of McCleary.
