Sirens: Unlawful possession of a firearm; man arrested for threats with knife; sleeping driver strikes sign

LEWIS COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT

Preliminary appearances

• Steele E. Gove Jr., 41, Pe Ell, made a preliminary appearance June 22 for one count of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. A judge set bail at $5,000 cash or bond. Gove was scheduled for an arraignment on June 25.

CENTRALIA POLICE  DEPARTMENT

Arrests

• Rick Summitt, 28, Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged malicious prosecution (domestic violence) in the 400 block of South Pearl Street at about 7:11 p.m. June 23, after he allegedly made multiple claims that he was assaulted by a household/family member with a knife. Police said the claim was proven to be untrue.

• Jesse M. McCracken-Bates, 29, Centralia, was arrested at about 11:23 p.m. June 23 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged third-degree theft in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road after police received video footage allegedly identifying McCracken-Bates as the suspect in a June 18 theft.

Accidents

• A street sign was struck by a driver near the corner of Centralia College Boulevard and South Yew Street at about 12:06 a.m. June 23. The driver reportedly fell asleep while driving. There were no injuries reported.

Harassment

• Officers received a report of threats to kill in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue at about 11:38 a.m. June 23. The suspect was unidentified at the time. The case is under investigation.

Scams

• Unlawful charges on a cellphone carrier account were reported in the 400 block of East Locust Street at about 4:05 p.m. June 23.

Theft



• Merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 1400 block of Lum Road at about 3:13 p.m. June 22. No suspects were identified.

• A citizen reported a stolen license plate in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue at about 9:08 p.m. June 22. According to the victim, the plate had been stolen from their vehicle while they were running errands in town.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Arrests and citations

•  Michael W. Thomas was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged third-degree assault involving a law enforcement officer in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard at about 9:27 p.m. June 19. Thomas was booked for additional counts of alleged third-degree assault and felony harassment.

• Tabitha C. Bale was issued a criminal citation for alleged third-degree theft in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 4:12 p.m. June 20. 

• Mariah R. Onepennee was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. June 21. Onepennee was referred for alleged reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of June 24, the Lewis County Jail had a total facility population of 138 inmates, including 125 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of the general population inmates, 105 were reported male and 20 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of June 24, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total jail population of 17 inmates. Of those, four were from Centralia, one was from Chehalis, one was from Napavine and five were from the Department of Corrections. Additionally, there were three from the Lummi Nation and one each from the Quileute Nation, the Shoalwater Bay Tribe and the Skokomish Tribe.
