Sirens: Vehicle collides with building; homeless man stays in store's bathroom for hours; passenger arrested in DUI stop

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 2400 block of Borst Avenue at approximately 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 27.

• A vehicle struck a building in the 600 block of South Tower Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 27. No injuries or damage to the building were reported.

 

Assault

• A 44-year-old Vancouver woman was arrested for assaulting a worker at a health care facility in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road just before 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 27.

 

DUI

• A 20-year-old Chehalis man was arrested for DUI in the 1600 block of Airport Road just after 5:55 a.m. on Jan. 28. A 19-year-old Tumwater man was also arrested for carrying a concealed pistol without a permit and for underage possession of a firearm.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Malicious mischief

• At approximately 8:50 a.m. on Jan. 27, a subject was cited for a third-degree malicious mischief that occurred in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way the week prior.

• Two homeless people reportedly ripped a street sign out of the ground in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue and were “messing around with the hole in the ground” just after 6:15 a.m. on Jan. 28.

 

Theft

• At 6:10 a.m. on Jan. 28, an attempted vehicle prowl that occurred in the 200 block of Southeast Washington Avenue at approximately 8:15 p.m. the day prior was reported.

 

Welfare check

• A woman requested a welfare check on a truck driver she believed was having a heart attack in the 400 block of South Market Boulevard just after 9:05 a.m. on Jan. 27. The reporting party also said the driver has a warrant and said “we can’t let him get away.” Dispatch noted she was “not making much sense.”

 



Suspicious circumstances

• A man reported someone in a truck was watching him play fetch with his dog in the 1500 block of Rice Road just after 12 p.m. on Jan. 28.

• At 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 28, a business in the 600 block of West Main Street reported a homeless man had been in the business’s restroom for two hours. Officers confirmed the man had “lower intestinal issues,” and he left without issue.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 2600 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue just after 12:35 p.m. on Jan. 28.

 

Vehicle accident

• A driver reportedly struck the support pole of a building in the 1200 block of South Market Boulevard just after 4 p.m. on Jan. 28.

 

Criminal trespass

• A man who was “lingering” around an employee’s vehicle at a business in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1 p.m. on Jan. 28 was trespassed from the business.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Monday morning and Wednesday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 63 illness-related calls, eight injury-related calls, 10 fire-related calls, 10 non-emergency service calls, three vehicle accidents, one Lifeline medical alert, one medical helicopter request, one ambulance request, one suicide-related call and two other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 152 inmates, including 139 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 103 were reported male and 36 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Wednesday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 16 inmates, including nine booked by the Centralia Police Department, four booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Tulalip Tribe and two booked by the Lummi Nation.
