Sirens: Warnings for camping on city property; Homeless man breaks bottles; Possession with intent to deliver; Assault; Lewis County Jail statistics

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• A license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1100 block of Long Road just before 8:45 a.m. on Aug. 28. 

• At 6:35 p.m. on Aug. 28, officers were dispatched to the report of a theft and an assault that had just occurred in the 100 block of South Silver Street. The female caller reported that a male stole her cellphone and when she tried to get it back, the male threw her down on the ground.   Officers arrived at the scene and contacted both parties, as well as numerous witnesses. “All witnesses stated the female claimed that the male stole her phone, but he did not. The female then attempted to take the male’s Raleigh electric bicycle,” according to the Centralia Police Department. The female’s cellphone, which she previously reported stolen, was located by the female inside her vehicle. While officers were investigating the complaint, the male was found in possession of a stolen Raleigh electric bike, as well as an air rifle and compound bow that were stolen from a recent burglary in Chehalis. The male, 46, of Winlock, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary. Additional charges of first-degree possession of stolen property were referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office.  The assault portion of this case is currently under investigation.

• A man reportedly stole items from a grocery store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just before 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 29 then returned to the store later that day and stole a sandwich. He was issued a citation for two counts of third-degree theft. 

• A Chehalis woman was cited for shoplifting from a grocery store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 29. She was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on an unrelated Department of Corrections warrant. The stolen property was located and returned to its owner. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• Several occupants in recreational vehicles in the 300 block of North Gold Street were given verbal warnings about camping on city property at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 28. The occupants were given resource information and educated on new city code, according to the Centralia Police Department. 

• Just before 10:40 a.m. on Aug. 28, there was a report of a camp set up on private property in the 500 block of Davis Street. The camper, a homeless man from California, was given a verbal warning about trespassing and was asked to leave the property. 

• A disorderly woman was trespassed from a business in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 28. 

• There was a report of homeless people camping in the woods on church property in the 700 block of M Street just after 9:40 a.m. on Aug. 29. An officer searched for the camp but was unable to locate it. 

• Officers were dispatched to a report of a disorderly homeless woman from Forest Grove, Oregon, who refused to leave private property in the 300 block of North Gold Street just before 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 29. The woman left the scene before officers arrived, but officers located her and trespassed her from the property at the property owner’s request. 

• Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North Gold Street at 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 29 for a report of a disorderly female on private property. The caller reported the female “had tried to rip an item out of their hand and then proceeded to hit the caller’s hand,” according to the Centralia Police Department. An officer arrived on scene and trespassed the woman per management’s request.

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A homeless man was reportedly breaking bottles at a store in the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue just before 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 29. The man denied breaking any bottles, and officers found no evidence bottles had been broken. The man was given a verbal warning for disorderly conduct. 

 

Disputes 

• A dispute between a male and a female was reported in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 6:05 p.m. on Aug. 28. The involved parties left the scene before officers arrived. 

• A dispute between a male and a female was reported in the 300 block of Meridian Avenue just after 8:10 p.m. on Aug. 29. Officers found no crime had occurred, and the involved individuals separated. 

 

Assault 

• Just before 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 28, there was a report that a male was assaulted by three people in a park in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue. The case is under investigation. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision in the 100 block of North Pearl Street just after 10:05 a.m. on Aug. 29. One vehicle reportedly ran a red light and collided into another vehicle in the intersection. Occupants of both vehicles received medical treatment from the Riverside Fire Authority at the scene. 



• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1100 block of Centralia College Boulevard at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Aug. 29. A single vehicle reportedly veered off the roadway due to a mechanical/steering issue and collided into two parked vehicles. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 100 block of North Pearl Street just after 12:55 p.m. on Aug. 29. The suspect vehicle reportedly “turned into/side-swiped” the victim’s vehicle as they were driving down the road and then fled the scene. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• Spray paint on a building in the 500 block of North Iron Street was reported just after 4:35 p.m. on Aug. 29. 

 

Drug violation 

 • A 41-year-old woman was arrested in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver just after 12:20 a.m. on Aug. 30 after officers on foot patrol saw her with drug paraphernalia in a parked vehicle and subsequently found “a large amount of illegal drugs in her purse, along with cash and brass knuckles.” She was booked into the Lewis County Jail. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Disputes 

• A physical dispute between a male and a female was reported in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street just after 11:20 a.m. on Aug. 29.  

• At least one subject was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail following a dispute between two males involving a knife in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue that was reported at 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 29. 

 

Welfare check 

• Just after 11:45 a.m. on Aug. 29, a caller requested a welfare check on an 11-year-old girl in the 100 block of Southwest 11th Street. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• Just before 1:05 p.m. on Aug. 29, there was a report that a group of people were setting up camp in the 2500 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue. 

• A subject was trespassed from property at the intersection of North National Avenue and Northeast Hampe Way just after 6:10 p.m. on Aug. 29 after officers responded to reports smoke was emanating from the area. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 132 inmates, including 118 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 91 were reported male and 27 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and two were reported female.
