Snow expected for Lewis County through the weekend

Snow descended on some parts of Lewis County Tuesday night, and more snow is in the forecast through the weekend.

The first dose of winter weather closed U.S. Highway 12 and other roads in East Lewis County Wednesday as heavy snow continued to fall. Most schools in the eastern part of the county were closed for the day while those on the western side of the county saw two-hour delays and buses reverting to snow routes.

Power was knocked out for thousands of Lewis County Public Utility District customers overnight Tuesday. Workers with the utility were continuing to restore electricity on Wednesday afternoon .

Heavy snow is in the forecast for East Lewis County Thursday through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. As of Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service anticipated the snow would let up Saturday night and Sunday.



The National Weather Service’s forecast office at the Chehalis-Centralia Airport anticipates a rain/snow mix in the area Thursday night, with a 50-60% chance of snow Friday and Saturday. As of Wednesday afternoon, the office forecasted a slight chance of snow in the area Saturday night and Sunday.
