All lanes of southbound I-5 are open Tuesday night after a fatal motorcycle collision closed down most of the highway, according to authorities.

The multivehicle collision, first reported around 5:30 p.m. near Everett Mall Way, killed one person, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding. The total number of injuries is not yet known.

The left three lanes of Southbound I-5 were blocked off for more than three hours after the collision, leaving only one lane open on the right, while emergency responders addressed the crash. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner needed to examine the scene before anything could be cleared, according to Harding.

Backups were 4 miles long at 7 p.m., according to Washington State Department of Transit.

As of 8:45 p.m., the road has been cleared and all lanes have reopened, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
