The Southwest Washington Farm Bureau Regional Meeting will highlight the Right to Farm Act, featuring a firsthand account from local farmer Connie Riker.

Riker successfully defended herself against a nuisance lawsuit using Washington’s Right to Farm Act, and she will share her experience to help fellow farmers understand their legal protections, according to a news release from the Lewis County Farm Bureau.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 29 at the Veterans Memorial Museum, 100 SW Veterans Way, Chehalis.

Farmers, aspiring farmers and agricultural professionals are encouraged to attend. Seating is limited, so reservations are required. The event is free.

To register, email dmuir@wsfb.com. Registration is required by March 20.

The regional meeting is a collaborative effort by the Lewis, Thurston, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Clark and Cowlitz county farm bureaus.

Other topics covered will include Washington State Farm Bureau policy issues presented by Anne Lawrence and a “Success in Agriculture” presentation.

A panel discussion will take place after, providing insights on practical applications of the Right to Farm Act, guidance on educating attorneys about the protection and strategies for success in agriculture.

“As our communities grow, it’s more important than ever for farmers to understand their rights,” said Dennis Styger, president of the Lewis County Farm Bureau.
