A 41-year-old Vancouver man was arrested Monday and accused of holding a 17-year-old girl captive and sexually assaulting her.
David Young was booked into the Clark County Jail on charges that include first-degree assault, second-degree assault by strangulation, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree rape.
Around 10 p.m. Monday, the alleged victim, who had fled to Oregon, called 911 to report that her “significant other” had assaulted her and held her against her will, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies identified Young as the suspect. The sheriff’s office said he had allegedly strangled the girl, assaulted her with a knife, restrained and held her against her will, and sexually assaulted her.
When deputies arrived at Young’s apartment near the 1700 block of Northeast Minnehaha Street in Vancouver, Young attempted to flee by jumping over fences, but he then returned to his apartment.
When he eventually exited his unit, he did not surrender to law enforcement and instead retreated back into his apartment again, slamming his door on the head and toes of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office police dog.
Young, who officials described as a registered sex offender, eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.
