Southwest Washington Writers Conference and AAUW fundraiser set for Sept. 6 and 7

The annual Southwest Washington Writers Conference, set to take place on Friday, Sept. 6, and Saturday, Sept. 7, will include guest speakers, workshops and an evening with the featured authors.

It also functions as a fundraiser for the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

When attending the Southwest Washington Writers Conference on Friday, Sept. 6, participants can expect registration and light refreshments at 8:30 a.m. followed by seminars led by featured author Olivia Hawker at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On Saturday, guests can attend a number of workshops, including ones on finding time to pursue writing, what literary agents really want and creating authentic Native American characters.

There will also be a number of guest speakers including Garth Stein, author of “The Art of Racing in the Rain” and Christina Suzann Nelson, author of “If We Make it Home.”



The conference will conclude with An Evening with Authors where Stein and Hawker will participate in interviews and discussion followed by a question and answer period moderated by author Mattthew Young.

An Evening with Authors will also include a basket raffle, food and wine, and local authors will be available to sign books that will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the event will benefit Hope Alliance, a domestic abuse resource center in Centralia.

The conference will take place at the Walton Science Center at Centralia College located at 620 Centralia College Blvd. The Evening with Authors event will be held in the Rose Bowman Room in the TransAlta Commons at Centralia College.
