State Golf Day 1 Roundup: Twelve area golfers make cut

State Golf Championships began at several courses around the state on Tuesday, and 12 area golfers have made the cut and advanced to Day 2.

Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis welcomed the 2A Girls Championships, where three area golfers — Black Hills’ Ellie Johnson, W.F. West’s Joelie Corey, and W.F. West’s Anabel Moeckel — earned a spot on Day 2.

Johnson will enter the final day in fifth place after shooting an 80 (+8), which included a birdie on Hole 14, a Par 5.

Corey is in a tie for 30th after shooting a 97 (+25), and Moeckel sits in a tie at 36th after carding a 98 (+26).

Also competing at Riverside on Day 1 were W.F. West’s Paige Duncan (101, +29), Black Hills’ Megan Dolby (105, +33), Black Hills’ Natalie Buchanan (108, +36), and Centralia’s Corin Meek (116, +44).

Tumwater Valley Golf Club in Tumwater hosted the 2A boys, where six golfers who qualified in the fall competed.

Five made the cut, including Black Hills’ Logan Stallings, the highest-placing area golfer in Tumwater. He finished Day 1 tied for 13th after shooting a 77 (+5), including a birdie on Hole 1 and Hole 9 that rounded out a 2-over 38 on the front nine.

Also making the cut was Tumwater’s Braeden Konrad (T-31st, 81, +9), Tumwater’s Baylor Olson (T-31st, 81, +9), Black Hills’ Kendell Roberson (T-38th, 83, +11), and W.F. West’s Emmett Goodman (T-38th, 83, +11).

Also competing was W.F. West Jax Potter, who only missed the cut by one stroke after shooting a 12-over 84.

1B/2B: Rainier’s Lily Peralta in front heading into Day 2

Rainier’s Lilyann Peralta is in a great spot after one day at MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake, the host of the 1B/2B Girls State Golf Championships.



Peralta shot a 1-over 71, which puts atop the leaderboard and five strokes clear of second heading into the final day.

Peralta posted three birdies on the day, including back-to-back birdies on Holes 13 and 14, which helped her finish the back nine in a 1-under 34.



Also competing in the 1B/2B Girls tournament was Rainier’s Kyla Capen (106, +36), Adna’s Lilly Naillon (115, +45), and Adna’s Kalli Christen (120, +50). Capen was closest to continuing into the second day, two shots back of the cut.

Also at MeadowWood were the 2B Boys, where Adna’s Trevin Salme and Rainier’s Joshua Peralta made the cut.

Salme is tied for eighth after shooting an 81 (+11), and Peralta is tied for 11th after carding an 84 (+14).

Also competing among the 2B Boys were Adna’s Brodey Luurs (89, +19) and Adna’s Preston Cardin (90, +20), who barely missed the cut of +17.

1A

Clayton Knutson represented Rochester in the 1A Boys State Golf Championships at MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake.

He finished the day with a 97 (+25), missing the cut.
