Farm near Sublimity, Oregon
A large summer storm that slammed Jefferson County earlier this week may cost farmers millions of dollars.
KTVZ reports that several inches of hail hit fields of carrots particularly hard.
The carrots are grown as a seed crop, and were nearly ready for harvest.
Central Oregon Seed Incorporated estimates up to 7,000 acres have severe damage. Each acre carries up to a $3,000 crop loss.
Madras farmer Gary Harris says the storm was the worst he's seen in his 45 years working the land there.
