A shotgun-wielding stranger broke into three Vancouver homes Wednesday, fatally shooting a woman and injuring two men before killing himself, authorities said.
The gunman, a 29-year-old man, had no prior connection with the residents but lived in the same complex of attached duplexes in the Landover-Sharmel neighborhood, according to Vancouver police spokesperson Kim Kapp.
Kapp declined to identify the shooter or deceased woman pending the results of autopsies.
A 43-year-old man first reported that a stranger had burst through a window and into his townhome on Northeast 22nd Street near 136th Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to police. The 43-year-old was wounded during a fight with the gunman, but not by gunfire, Kapp said.
Officers arrived on the scene and soon learned of a second home invasion nearby, where police said the gunman fatally shot a 77-year-old woman.
A 74-year-old man in a third residence was also injured but not by gunfire, police said.
Kapp said she didn’t know the extent of each man’s injuries but said they were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
The suspect was found inside his own home dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
