Late last month, 40 ninth grade students from Summit Homeschool in Centralia visited the Washington state Capitol for an immersive learning experience with Rep. Peter Abbarno, House Republican Caucus chair.

Students explored the historic Capitol building during their tour and observed legislative proceedings. Abbarno also discussed the legislative process, the role of state government and ways young people can get involved in shaping their communities.

"Seeing these students take such an active interest in government and how policies are made is truly motivating," said Abbarno, R-Centralia. "Visits like these provide a great opportunity to connect book learning and class lessons with real-world experiences."

This trip offered students a unique experience to explore the legislative process up close, deepening their understanding of how laws are made and how decisions are shaped. Abbarno appreciates these interactions and will continue fostering civic engagement among young learners.

"I was impressed by the great student and parent questions during the visit," added Abbarno. "These visits provide everyone a lesson in the history of our state, region, and the Legislature."
