Support sought for local woman attacked by large dog

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up for an area woman who was attacked by a large dog on July 8.

According to her friend, Don Wilson, Elizabeth Carne was helping an elderly neighbor bring a trash can into the neighbor’s house, when a large dog “burst out” and bit Carne’s arm and leg.

The bites have since become infected, according to Wilson. Carne also suffered a broken bone during the attack.

“Because Elizabeth is diabetic,” Wilson wrote on the GoFundMe page, “her recovery has been slow and complicated. She is currently on antibiotics and will soon begin physical therapy.”

According to the GoFundMe, Carne is a contractor for the Washington state Department of Licensing, and does not receive medical benefits or sick leave.

“She has been unable to work since the attack and has no income now and no medical insurance and mounting medical bills,” Wilson wrote.

Any donations are said to go directly toward medical bills and basic living expenses. As of Friday, Aug. 29, $1,600 has been raised toward the $10,000 goal.

“We are asking friends, fellow dancers, and kindhearted supporters to help Elizabeth through this difficult time,” Wilson wrote.

According to Wilson, the owner of the dog has not offered compensation for the attack.

Wilson is president of the Cougar Squares square and round dance club in Toledo. He described Carne as a “friendly and fun member of the club.”

“Elizabeth has been involved with our club activities and has participated in dances with Cougar Squares, Prairie Steppers, Columbia River Dancers, R Square D and some of the clubs in Olympia at Lac-A-Do Hall,” Wilson wrote.
