A Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputy was treated for a dislocated knee following a struggle with a domestic violence suspect in the Grand Mound area on Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Our deputy was transported to St. Peter’s Hospital by medics and is in good spirits while they receive preliminary treatment,” the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook at about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the Grand Mound area earlier that night and established probable cause for two domestic violence (DV) charges: felony harassment and third-degree malicious mischief, according to the sheriff’s office. The male suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived, but a short time later, while deputies were searching the area, the victim called to report the suspect had returned.

“Deputies located the male at the residence, and the male fought with deputies before smashing his own head into the patrol car twice, damaging the vehicle. During this struggle, the suspect kicked one of our deputy’s in the knee, dislocating the deputy’s knee,” the sheriff’s office stated in the post about the incident.

A second deputy reportedly “continued fighting the suspect while the injured deputy reset his own knee, crawled back into the fight, and grabbed the suspect's legs to gain control,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect was eventually placed into a WRAP restraint system, which the sheriff’s office stated “wraps the suspect up so they can’t assault anyone,” and transported him to Capital Medical Center for medical clearance.

“While receiving medical attention, the suspect bit a nurse and attempted to bite another nurse while berating medical staff and law enforcement and threatening to kill law enforcement,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect, whose name has not been released by law enforcement, was ultimately booked into the Thurston County Jail for felony harassment DV, felony malicious mischief DV, felony assault on a law enforcement officer, assault, attempted assault, harassment threat to kill and resisting arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.
