Clark County Sheriff’s Office personnel arrested the suspect in an animal cruelty case hours after the Battle Ground Police Department asked the public for help locating him Friday.
Andre Terwilleger, 35, was arrested on allegations of animal cruelty after a monthslong investigation that began Nov. 15, 2024, according to a news release from Battle Ground police.
Officers were responding to a residence in the 2100 block of Southwest 5th Street in November when they discovered nine dogs abandoned in the garage area. Five of the dogs were dead. The other four were severely malnourished. They received emergency veterinary care and are expected to survive.
Detectives determined that Terwilleger, a former tenant of the residence, was responsible for the care of the dogs. A warrant for his arrest was issued Thursday, but detectives were unable to locate him.
On Friday, police asked the public for help locating him, and tips quickly started pouring in, police said Saturday.
“We are truly humbled by the overwhelming support we received on this heartbreaking case,” said Battle Ground Police Chief Dennis Flynn. “The community’s vigilance and dedication to making our city a safe and compassionate place does not go unnoticed.”
