T-Birds Erupt in Sixth to Put Away Wolves

TUMWATER — Tumwater exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning and the Thunderbirds ran away from Black Hills late for a 10-1 home victory on Friday.

Leading 2-1 entering the sixth, the Thunderbirds bats came alive, with Megan Paull, Jaime Haase, Maddie Hurley, Aly Waltermeyer, Jaylen Latchaw and Jaylene Manriquez all driving runs in to give Tumwater all the runs they would need.

Latchaw and Manriquez led the offensive attack — each cracking home runs — with Latchaw going 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run and Manriquez going 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

The T-Birds pounded out 15 total hits on the day, with Aly Waltermeyer and Scout Abbott each tallying three hits a peice.

On the mound, Tumwater’s Haley Stewart put together a solid outing, striking out eight and allowing just one earned run on four hits and a walk for the complete-game victory.

Black Hills, meanwhile, struggled to string together hits with Ella Goheen (1 for 3), Zoey Theophilus (1 for 3), and Sam West (2 for 2) collecting the only hits.

Theophilus’ hit was a solo shot, giving the Wolves their lone run.

Black Hills next hosts Centralia on Monday. Tumwater (2-0) heads to Aberdeen on Monday.
