T-Birds roll past Burlington-Edison

The Tumwater football team got off to a fast start Friday, blowing out Burlington-Edison 49-6 at Sid Otton Field.

After getting shut out in the first quarter, Tumwater broke the scoreless deadlock on a Logan Cole 8-yard run midway through the second. Cole added a six-yard score five minutes later, the T-Birds got the ball right back, and less than a minute after that, Mathias Rodriguez scored on a 4-yard dive to make it 21-0 at halftime.

Tumwater followed the 21-point second quarter with a 21-point third, with Peyton Davis scoring, Rodriguez getting his second, and Ethan Kastner tossing the first of his two touchdown passes of the day, to Kooper Clark.

Kastner found Jacob Dillon on a 43-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it 49-0, before the Tigers got their one touchdown.

Jaylin Nixon led Tumwater with 103 yards on five carries, while Cole logged 66 rushing yards, and also caught a pass for 14 more. Kastner finished his season-opener 6 for 9 for 112 yards.



It’s Tumwater’s 11th straight season-opening win, a streak dating back to 2012. The T-Birds (1-0) will head out to face North Kitsap next week.

Wolves routed at Monte

The Black Hills football team lost its Week 1 matchup Friday, 44-7 to Montesano.

No stats were reported.

The Wolves (0-1) will host North Thurston next week.
