Morton-White Pass did exactly what it needed to Thursday night to ensure it still had a shot at the Central 2B League’s No. 2 seed: defeat Wahkiakum at home on senior night in the Timberwolves’ regular-season finale.
The T-Wolves started slow then romped after a big second quarter, leading by as many as 28 early in the fourth quarter en route to a 65-41 victory.
“Really proud of the guys,” MWP coach Chad Cramer said. “Tonight was a classic trap game. It was senior night, with a different starting lineup and it’s easy to come out and not be as energized or focused.
“My guys didn’t do that. I was happy with their mental fortitude.”
After leading 11-8 after one quarter, MWP reeled off a 22-13 run to end the half, then outscored the Mules in the final two quarters to seal the win.
“It was a nice way to wrap up senior night,” Cramer said.
Hunter Hazen led the charge for the T-Wolves, scoring a team-high 18 points, while Josh Salguero scored 13, Gary Dotson added 11 and Leytan Collette chipped in nine.
The Timberwolves are now in a three-way tie with Adna and Napavine for second in the C2BL and will await seeding on Friday. The T-Wolves will host the first round at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
