Travelers should add some extra time to their planned trips later this week if they're going through Thurston County. The Washington State Department of Transportation announced on Dec. 12 plans to replace barriers on portions of I-5 later this week.

According to a news release from WSDOT, the interstate between Olympia and Grand Mound will see temporary lane closures Dec. 14 and Dec. 15 while crews replace barriers damaged during recent collisions.

Tumwater will see closures from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 14. The right lane of northbound I-5 near Trosper Road will be closed between mileposts 103 and 104. Maytown will have closures 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 15 between mileposts 95.5 and 97.5, going both directions just north of the Maytown exit. Traffic will be heavily congested, especially southbound on Dec. 15.
