The Tenino girls soccer team officially clinched the 1A Evergreen League title on Tuesday, when it defeated Elma 3-0 at home on Senior Night.
“The girls were pretty pumped and fired up about a league title,” Tenino coach Trevor Fetbrandt said. “There were great vibes after the game, and we were happy to be able to celebrate it on Senior Night with the families and the crowd. It was a good time.”
Callie Mickelson scored twice in the first half, first on an unassisted goal in the 7th minute before scoring off an assist from Sophie Espino in the 21st. Maria Summers added the third on an unassisted goal of her own in the 61st minute.
With the win, the Beavers regular-season game in Montesano on Thursday won’t mean anything in the standings for Tenino.
Fetbrandt said that there are two options for the Beavers, one being to prioritize rest and rotate the squad, with the other being starting the best 11 to maintain sharpness going into the postseason.
Fetbrandt added that that decision will be made by him and his coaching staff before the game on Thursday.
“We’ll be ready no matter what comes Thursday night,” Fetbrandt said.
Regardless of which route the coaching staff chooses, it will be the final regular season game for Tenino’s seven seniors — Gracie Sweet, Mickelson, Rayanna Mustoe, Kyla Watson, Summers, Abby Robertson, and Tate Carbonneau — who were honored on Tuesday night prior to the game.
After that game in Montesano, those seniors and the rest of the Beavers will prepare for their postseason run, which will begin with a home district quarterfinal on Thursday, Oct. 29.
“Our program has a good chunk of seniors in it, and we're super grateful for everything they've contributed to the program and the legacy they’re going to leave,” Fetbrandt said. “But the fun part is the story’s not over yet. It should be a fun next month or so.”
