Tenino cruises by Kalama, secures first win

It took until the end of the month, but the Beavers played a competitive game of baseball and didn’t lift their foot off the gas on their way to a 12-2, five-inning triumph over the Chinooks at home on Saturday afternoon.

The bats registered nine hits and took advantage of four Kalama errors in the win. Tenino scored in every inning, including three runs in the second to take the lead for good and a five-spot in the fourth.

Starting pitcher Jude Leitch finished the game with his bat with an RBI double in the fifth. Prior to ending the fourth with a strikeout, the Beavers’ first two outs still produced runs on sacrifice files. Griffin Hussey and Easton Miller capped the inning with two straight RBI singles.

Kellan Johnson joined Hussey, Miller and Leitch with two RBIs while Brayden Bennett stole a pair of bases and scored three times. Tenino will open Evergreen League play with a road doubleheader against arch rival Rochester on Tuesday.
