Tenino picks up first league win of season

There was a scheduling snafu that impacted the Beavers on Friday night.

Originally scheduled to host Ilwaco, they traveled to play their first Evergreen League match. Add in not having ample practice time on a grass field, Tenino had a handful of obstacles to overcome.

It did and then-some as it defeated the Fishermen 2-0 on two second-half goals to pick up its first win overall.

“It was a completely new experience,” Beavers coach Trevor Fetbrandt said. “The first half was a work in progress. It was nice to be able to adjust to that.”

Sophomore Henry Czuleger found the back of the net in the 47th minute on a feed from Austin Ebling-Knaggs to break a scoreless match. Miguel Espinoza doubled the Tenino (1-1, 1-0 Evergreen) cushion in the 67th minute on a pass from Brendan Mathis.
“We changed our attack to play more direct,” Fetbrandt said. “Our forwards stayed up and we got a lot of chances. Energy wise, it was a big boost now they see they are capable of winning games.”
