Turns out, the Class 1A five-team bundle was still a force to be reckoned with.
Montesano, the top seed in the state tournament, won the title and Hoquiam – the league champ and top-four seed at state – finished fourth.
Tenino, with four seniors gone from a 5-14 overall finish and 2-6 in the league, are still trying to find the right mix to compete at the top.
So far off to an 0-4 start, the Beavers have struggled through the first couple weeks with pitching and defense, accumulating 24 errors so far.
One bright spot has been the emergence of Tamera Snodderly at the plate, hitting above .400 while returning pitcher Chloe Grayless has given Tenino plenty of innings as its top pitcher.
The Beavers lost both their games in the 1A District 4 tournament, scoring one combined run at Fort Borst Park.
