‘The Addams Family’: Roxy Theater’s summer musical begins run

Posted

Those looking for a “spook-tacle” this summer need only turn to the Roxy Theater in Morton, which will be haunted by the Addams family Aug. 4-12.

Presented by Centralia College East with the Fire Mountain Arts Council, “The Addams Family — A New Musical” is “a comical feast, embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and plays out every father’s nightmare,” the Roxy Theater wrote in a news release.

The musical follows a “crisis in the Addams household,” as “Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family — a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother,” the theater stated.

“Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.”

The first show was set to begin at 7 p.m. Friday night.  Remaining showtimes are 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, Wednesday, Aug. 9 and Saturday Aug. 12, with a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday, Aug. 5.

General admission costs $15 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available online at www.MortonRoxy.org or  https://www.centralia.edu/about/locations/cceast/summer-musicals.aspx, at the BCJ Gallery adjacent to the Roxy Theater, at the Centralia College East campus in Morton or at the door if seats are available.

Aside from covering the costs of putting on the show, proceeds from ticket sales will fund scholarships at Centralia College East and help support the operation of the Roxy Theater.

The Roxy Theater is located at 233 W. Main Ave. in Morton.
