Open Mic at Matrix Coffeehouse

Have something you want to say (or sing)? The Matrix Coffeehouse in Chehalis is holding an open mic starting at 6 p.m. tonight. A $2 donation is suggested.

Signups begin at 5:40 p.m. Spoken word performances start at 6 p.m., acoustic acts at 7 p.m., and electric acts are possible later.

Open mic is held each Thursday.

Artists Exhibit in Morton

Steampunk goggles by Pasco artists, John Goulet and his daughter Jennifer, are featured in the Barbara Clevenger Johnson Gallery in Morton in the annex at the Roxy Theater. 

Each pair is elaborately designed and displayed in its unique storage chest.

Unicorn Porn, Timid Pimps, The Love Johnnies at Matrix Coffeehouse

Unicorn Porn, Timid Pimps and The Love Johnnies will play starting at 8 p.m. on Friday at The Matrix Coffeehouse in Chehalis. Cover is $6.

The music is described as avant garde experimental free jazz jam psychedelia improvisational funk punk/electro skunk and rock and roll.

Chris Guenther, Elliot’s Outlaws at Riverside Golf Club

Two country bands, Chris Guenther and the Honky Tonk Drifters and Elliot’s Outlaws, will play starting at 6 p.m. on Friday at Riverside Golf Club Outdoor Pavilion, 1451 Airport Road, Chehalis.

No cover will be charged, and minors are allowed until 9 p.m.

Valley View Health Center Golf Tournament at Newaukum Valley Golf Course

The sixth annual Valley View Health Center Golf Tournament will be held on Friday at Newaukum Valley Golf Course in Chehalis. Registration is at 11 a.m., pre-games begin at 11:30 a.m., and the shotgun start is at 1 p.m.

Fees are $75 per player, which includes greens fees, golf cart, golf shirt, hot dog lunch and dinner following the tournament. Warm-up games are available for $15 and include a longest drive contest, chipping contest and putting contest.

The No. 99 Aflac Ford Fusion show car will be on display from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The New Blues Brothers at Washington Park in Centralia

The New Blues Brothers will perform in the final concert of the Music in the Park series at 6 p.m. on Friday at Washington Park in Centralia.

Scotch Dinner at Olympic Club

The Olympic Club will host a scotch dinner at 6 p.m. on Friday. A multicourse meal will be paired with Macallan and Highland scotches.

The menu includes scotch-infused wild coho smoked salmon, duck breast and fig bread pudding.



The dinner is $45, for 21 and over only, and reservations are required.

Yard Bird Artwork at Muse Art Gallery

From 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, the Muse Art Gallery inside Catty Wampus, 208 N. Tower Ave., Centralia, will host an event to raise money to save the Yard Bird. Several local artists have donated original Yard Bird-themed artwork and prints for auction and for sale.

Proceeds will go to the Yard Bird Fund.

‘Twelfth Night’ Live Theater in Morton

In conjunction with the Loggers’ Jubilee, Centralia College East in conjunction with the Fire Mountain Arts Council is performing “Twelfth Night,” a comedy by William Shakespeare. Shipwrecked twins — lost to each other, a love-sick Duke, a coy Countess, her drunken uncle and clever maid, a Puritanical steward, an eccentric pirate, and others cavort through their comical affairs (love and otherwise) to a happy ending for (almost) everyone. The comedy is set in a “Steampunk,” Victorian, science-fiction-like setting.

The show raises funds to enable quality future productions, assist with theater operation, and fund scholarships for Centralia College students from eastern Lewis County.

Show times are: 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available at Centralia College East, Barbara Clevenger Johnson Gallery at the Roxy and Camera Exchange in Centralia.

Car Show at Lucky Eagle

The Olympia Street Rod Association Car Show revs up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The event is free for the entire family. More than 400 classic cars will be on display.

Live DJ personality Steve Mohney will be playing all your favorite oldies 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Centralia Old-Time Music Campout at Skookumchuck River

The annual Centralia Old-Time Music Campout will be held from Sunday until Aug. 21 in a field in Centralia. The event is described as “a relaxed event for musicians who like lots of jamming and hanging out with old friends and making new ones.”

For $10, get a raffle ticket for a chance to win a banjo made by Patrick “Doc” Huff of Dalles, Ore.

The suggested donation is $70 for the week or $20 per day.

Paul ‘Buck’ Stierle Sings ‘Bob Dylan, the Early Years’

Paul “Buck” Stierle will play the guitar and sing songs from Bob Dylan’s early years, 1962-1974, at a free performance at the Salkum Timberland Library at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Stierle is a former member of the New Christy Minstrels and has performed with the Kingston Trio, Jan and Dean, the Marshall Tucker Band and the Mamas and the Papas.
