Three people were arrested following a seven-hour standoff with law enforcement personnel in Chehalis on Tuesday.

Nearby schools were on a modified lockdown as a result of the incident, which began Tuesday morning.

Chehalis Police Department officers and Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputies were initially dispatched to a report of a “dispute involving a firearm” in the 1600 block of Southwest Grandview Avenue at approximately 5 a.m. on April 1, according to a Chehalis Police Department news release.

Once they arrived, they developed probable cause to arrest a 17-year-old Chehalis man on two counts of second-degree assault with a firearm, according to the Chehalis Police Department. He additionally had a $1 million outstanding warrant for an unrelated first-degree assault charge, according to Chehalis police.

The 17-year-old’s name was not released by law enforcement on Tuesday.

While at the residence, officers also learned that the suspect in an unrelated first-degree assault case, Micah Nobach, 19, of Centralia, was inside the residence, according to the news release.

“After multiple attempts to have the subjects exit the residence went unanswered, Thurston County SWAT and Washington State Patrol SWAT responded to assist,” the Chehalis Police Department said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

Following a seven-hour standoff, Chehalis police said, “four subjects peacefully exited the residence to include Nobach and the 17-year-old male. There were no reported injuries during the incident.”

Nobach, the 17-year-old and a third subject, identified as Larisa Boyd, were arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail.

Boyd is accused of rendering criminal assistance and providing a false or misleading statement to a public servant during the incident, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

“This case is still under investigation and no further details are being released at this time,” the Chehalis Police Department said in a news release.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Washington State Patrol, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the Centralia Police Department for their assistance during this incident. A peaceful and expeditious outcome would not have been possible without their assistance,” the Chehalis Police Department stated in the release.

Schools in the Chehalis School District went into a modified lockdown from 7:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday as a result of the incident.

“Modified lockdown means that everyone stays inside the buildings but may roam freely inside the buildings,” Chehalis School District Public Information Officer Carrina Stanton said in an email to a Chronicle reporter.

During the modified lockdown, Chehalis School District Security and Safety Officers Todd Thornburg and Troy Thornburg were in active communication with the Chehalis Police Department and there was no immediate threat to the safety of students or staff, according to Stanton.

"Our district took additional safety steps but our dedicated staff made sure education went on as normal in our schools today,” said Chehalis Superintendent Rick Goble. “We very much appreciate the communication from the Chehalis Police Department with our security and safety officers, which allowed us to make informed decisions during this event.”
