Thurston County Auditor's Office Warns Voters of New Door-to-Door Canvassing Effort

The Thurston County Auditor's Office sent voters a warning on Monday regarding a new voter research project's door-to-door canvassing effort.

Mary Hall, the Thurston County auditor, said the office issued the warning after receiving calls from concerned voters. Reports indicate the canvassers are volunteers for the Voter Verification Project, which is not affiliated with the auditor's office.

Hall said the volunteers are asking voters to verify their addresses and share their signatures. Voters should not feel obligated to provide any information, Hall added.

"A signature is like a fingerprint," Hall said. "We wanted people to know that they're not under any requirement to sign any documents and that it's not our office."

The office does not have any additional information on the Voter Verification Project's motives for conducting research at this time, Hall said.
