Thurston County Reports 490 COVID Cases, Nine Deaths

New cases of COVID-19 in Thurston County increased in the health department’s latest report as 490 cases were tallied during the period of April 25 through May 1.

Nine deaths were also reported during that time frame. They included a man in his 50s, a woman in her 60s, three women and a man in their 70s, and two women and a man in their 80s.

The prior week there were 304 COVID-19 cases reported between April 18 and April 24.

Out of the 46,672 total county cases reported by May 2, patients who have recovered or are recovering increased to 46,037, according to the county health department.

As of May 2, the county health department reported a total of 2,288 COVID-related hospitalizations in Thurston County since the start of the pandemic.



Health care workers have vaccinated 66% of the population countywide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DOH.

In neighboring Pierce County, deaths landed at .4 per 100,000 population, and new cases were at 137.6 per 100,000 population as of May 3, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. The total number of cases in the county reached 196,829 as of May 3 with 1,401 deaths, according to DOH.

In Washington state, as of May 3, there were 1,510,309 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, a total of 60,602 people have been hospitalized because of the illness, and 12,706 people have died, according to DOH.

Over 13 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state.

Nationwide, as of May 3, there were 81,227,576 total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 991,178 confirmed deaths and 82.5% of Americans 5 years old and up have at least one of the vaccinations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). New cases over the last 30 days have been on a slow upwards trajectory, while new deaths over the last 30 days are on a steady downward trend, CDC graphs indicated.
