Tigers and Riverhawks play to a tie

The Toledo and Napavine softball teams went back-and-forth all afternoon on Thursday, but neither team could pull away, and the game finished in a 12-12 tie.

Toledo got the upper hand early with a four-run first, but Napavine scored all 12 of its runs over the next five innings and led 12-6 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

The Riverhawks were able to battle back, scoring two in the bottom half and four in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 12.

The potential winning run was on second, but a soft grounder to the pitcher ended the inning and the game.

It’s Toledo’s second tie of the season, as the Riverhawks tied with Centralia last week.

Peyton Holter finished 5 for 5 with a triple, two doubles, and four runs batted in to lead the Riverhawks offensively, while Xtyn Norberg added four hits and two RBIs.

Zaya Norberg and Brenna Carver added three hits apiece and combined to score five runs.

Dakota Lyons led the Tigers with three hits and two RBIs, while Grace Pancake had two hits, including a triple, and drove in three. Taylen Evander added a double as part of her two-hit night, and she scored three runs.

Napavine (2-2-1, 1-0 C2BL) will travel south to face Toutle Lake on Friday, and Toledo (2-0-2) will head to Adna on Saturday.
