A two-run cushion for the Napavine High School softball team was ballooned in a hurry with an 11-run top of the sixth to dispatch Toutle Lake 18-5 in six innings on Saturday afternoon.

It’s the third win of the week for the Tigers (11-2, 3-1 C2BL) and next comes a big week with four games, including three straight road contests. They opened on Monday versus Winlock and will battle Hoquiam on Tuesday.

“Good day at the plate for a lot of kids,” Napavine head coach Josh Fay said. “Hopefully we can build on it.”

Nine of the runs in the sixth came with two outs. Lyla Kirkpatrick had a two-run single as the third batter of the inning and then roped a two-RBI double nine hitters later. The Tigers took advantage of four Toutle Lake errors to boot.

A four-run first opened the scoring for Napavine which featured a two-run Hayden Kaut single. Three more crossed home in the second thanks to an outfield mishap by the Ducks. Kaut and Dakota Lyons each had three hits while Kirkpatrick and Macie Brevard combined for seven RBIs.

Lyons worked around 13 hits to go the distance in the circle with six strikeouts for Napavine.
