Tigers breeze past Loggers, return to district semifinals

The Napavine boys basketball team didn’t have much trouble in its district quarterfinal on Wednesday, as the Tigers breezed past Onalaska for an 80-41 win in Castle Rock.

Napavine opened up an 18-point lead after the first, but Onalaska responded by trimming that lead to 13 but the break.

The Tigers took the momentum back in the third, outscoring the Loggers 27-6 in the frame to put the game out of reach.

Karsen Denault just missed out on a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds, and he also added five steals, while Hudson Chambers hit five threes as part of his 19-point night. Chambers was also all over the floor defensively, as he finished the night with eight steals.

Beckett Landram added 16 points and four assists, and Cal Bullock tallied nine points, four assists, and four rebounds.

Blaze Underhill led the Loggers with 16 points and five rebounds, while Ethan Thayer added 10 points and six rebounds.

Cooper Lawrence, Case McGraw, and Maddox McKinley added four apiece. Lawrence also tallied five steals and five rebounds, and McGraw finished with three steals, two assists, and two rebounds.

Napavine (19-2) will face Toledo next Wednesday, Feb. 19, where it will look to return to the district title game.

Onalaska (10-13), on the other hand, will need to win three straight elimination games to qualify for state. The Loggers’ first test in the elimination bracket will come against Winlock on Friday in Castle Rock.
