Tigers eke past Vikings in low-scoring affair

An RBI groundout and an RBI single was all the Napavine baseball team needed on Wednesday in Mossyrock, where the Tigers came away with a 2-0 victory over their league foe.

Napavine’s Cal Bullock and Mossyrock’s Easton Kolb were locked in a pitcher’s duel, and neither team was able to get a run across in the first four innings.

Eric Bullock finally got the Tigers on the board in the top of the fifth with the RBI groundout, and Hudson Chambers tacked on an insurance run in the sixth with the RBI single.

Cal Bullock polished off a phenomenal six innings, where he allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out 16, and Chambers finished the job by striking out the side in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Mossyrock finished the game with just three hits, but the Vikings had a chance to do some damage early.

Two Vikings reached base in both the first and second inning, but all four baserunners were left stranded. They only had two more batters reach base in the final five innings.

“It was one of those games,” Mossyrock coach Darren Kolb said. “That was our two runs we could have scored.”

Easton Kolb ended up going six strong on the mound, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned) while walking two and racking up 11 strikeouts. Kevin Mitchell pitched the seventh, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Easton Kolb, Shaun Fry, and Van Kost collected the team’s three hits.

“I think they have confidence,” Darren Kolb said. “It’s growing. It’s how you finish. You never know once these kids start hitting the ball.”

The Vikings (4-5, 4-5 C2BL) and Tigers (10-2, 8-0 C2BL) will face off again on Friday in Napavine.
