Tigers Inch Closer to League Title at Kalama

The 2B No. 3 Napavine girls basketball team gunned it early and didn’t let up until the fourth quarter, racing past Kalama 63-32.

The Tigers held the Chinooks to three points in the first quarter and nine points across the first half, not letting their hosts break double-digits until the third quarter — a third quarter that saw Napavine explode for 24.

Napavine did it behind a balanced offensive attack. Morgan Hamilton led the way with 11 points. Keira O’Neill added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Hayden Kaut and Jessie McCoy both scored nine points, and Danielle Tupuola and Grace Gall both had seven, with Avery Schutz pitching in six.

“We were very balanced tonight, and I thought our defense was tough,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said.

The win keeps the Tigers perfect in Central 2B League play, with one game left to go. Napavine will host Winlock on Wednesday, with a victory clinching the league title and its No. 1 seed going into the District 4 tournament.
