Eight Napavine players tallied 17 total hits in a 16-4 thumping of Wahkiakum on the road in Central 2B League play Saturday in Cathlamet.
Five Tigers in total put together multi-hit games, led by senior Gavin Parker going 3 for 3 with five runs, three RBIs and a walk.
Scott Burdick was 4 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs, Austin Chapman was 3 for 5 with two runs and Ashtin Landry and Ashton Demarest both went 2 for 5. Demarest doubled twice and drove in four runs as well.
“We hit the ball pretty well throughout the lineup,” Napavine coach Brian Demarest said.
Napavine struck early, plating eight runs in the top of the first to stun the Mules from the get-go.
While the Tigers were taking advantage of Wahkiakum’s pitchers, Napavine starter Conner Holmes put together a respectable outing, striking out four and allowing four earned runs on five hits and five walks across six innings for the win.
“Conner did a real nice job on the mound,” Demarest said. “Had a little trouble one inning but threw a lot of strikes and let his defense play.
The Tigers’ defense was stout, committing zero errors to the Mules’ four mishaps. Sixty percent of Holmes’ 85 pitches were strikes, which helped him counter the Mules’ three-run burst in the fourth innings.
Napavine (8-3) will look to keep its momentum churning when it heads to Rainier for another league matchup at 5 p.m. on Monday.
