Wind and rain came throughout the afternoon at Fort Borst Park on Monday, but it did little to slow down the Centralia offense in the Tigers’ 19-0 victory over Hockinson.
It’s another impressive outing for the Tigers at the plate, who lost their opener 19-11 against Raymond last week.
“Last week, we hit the ball well, but we hit “right at ya balls,” Centralia coach David Orr. “They’ve been working hard. They spent a lot of time on their own in the offseason.”
The sticks got going early and often, as “Mad Dog” Rothdeutsch hit a two-run home run in Centralia’s third at-bat of the game to get the Tigers on the board.
Hollynn Wakefield and McKenna Smith followed with back-to-back RBI singles later in the inning, and they were off and running.
Payton Baumel hit a two-run single of her own and Wakefield hit another to make it 8-0 in the second, and a bases-loaded walk and error added three more in the third.
Things got out of hand in the fourth. Adrianne Lynch, Brooklyn Sprague, and Baumel brought home one each on RBI singles, and Smith brought in two more with another RBI knock of her own.
Makenzie Erickson put the finishing touches on the blowout with a no-doubt three-run blast to left.
“We got to mix it up today,” Orr said. “Everybody got involved. Can’t ask for more than that.”
Rothdeutsch, Baumel, Smith, and Erickson finished with three RBIs each, while Sprague and Wakefield both finished with one.
Wakefield started the game in the circle, allowing just two hits and striking out four in three shutout innings. Madi Mounts and Smith combined to pitch the final two innings, and they didn’t allow a hit and struck out four.
The Tigers (1-1) will hit the road for the first time on Wednesday, when they’ll head to Toledo.
