The Napavine football team handled Kalama with ease in C2BL action on Saturday, putting up 50 points in the opening frame en route to a 70-12 victory.
After Kalama got the first points of the game, the Tigers (6-1, 2-0 C2BL North) quickly went to work, scoring seven touchdowns in the first quarter alone.
Ashton Demarest had three of the touchdowns, one with his legs and two through the air on long passes to Colin Shields and Karsen Denault.
Cael Stanley, Cayle Kelly and Denault also found the end zone on the ground, and Connor Holmes took an interception back for a pick-six.
“That was the game we were looking for," Napavine coach Josh Fay said. “Other than a mishandled opening kickoff that led to their score and the first snap from scrimmage, that’s as good of a first quarter as we could play.”
The Tigers weren’t done, as Demarest found James Grose on a touchdown pass and Caleb Von Pressentin broke free for a 21-yard touchdown run of his own. Connor Holmes nearly had a second pick-six.
Some of the younger Tigers were able to connect late as well, as sophomore Grady Wilson found freshman Beckett Landrum for a late touchdown.
“Great to see a lot of guys contribute,” Fay said. “We really did a good job of spreading it around. Hopefully this is the direction we have been looking to go.”
The Napavine defense was able to hold Kalama to just 105 total yards, while the offense racked up 434. Demarest finished with 257 total yards and four total touchdowns, while Denault and Shields each notched 50-plus yards through the air. Kelly added 51 yards on the ground.
The Tigers will wrap up their regular season with two C2BL North matchups, starting with a trip to South Bend to take on RSB on Friday.
