What started as a pitchers duel turned into a back-and-forth battle late in Napavine, where the Tigers walked off Toledo 6-5.
Chase Shea delivered the walk-off two-run, single to cap a three-run bottom half of the seventh, a half-inning that only happened because Toledo scored three runs of its own in the top half to take a late 5-3 lead.
The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fifth, when Napavine scored three runs on a groundout, an error, and a wild pitch.
The Riverhawks responded in the sixth, scoring a pair of runs on an error and a sacrifice fly, and another run scored on an error to tie the game in the top of the seventh. A sacrifice fly from Nico Acosta gave Toledo the lead, and a single from Brady Weeks added an insurance run.
That ended up not being enough, though. After the first two Tigers reached safely in the bottom half, Layton Griffith got Napavine within one with an RBI single, and two batters later, Shea delivered the game-winning hit to center.
Hudson Chambers ended up getting the win on the mound, as he allowed three unearned runs and two hits in an inning and two-thirds. Cal Bullock pitched the first five and a third, allowing two hits and a pair of unearned runs while walking five and striking out 11.
Rohan Reigenbaum got the no decision after a strong start for Toledo, one where he allowed three hits and three runs (one earned) across five innings of work.
Napavine (13-2, 11-0 C2BL) is now three games up on Toledo (10-4, 8-3 C2BL) for second in the C2BL standings, and the Tigers are just a half-game back of Adna for first place.
The Tigers and Riverhawks will meet again in Toledo on Wednesday.
