Tigers top Wolves to complete perfect week

The Centralia girls tennis team capped a perfect week on Thursday, defeating Black Hills 5-1 to win their fourth match in as many days.

“This is a great group of girls,” Centralia assistant coach Carissa Kaut said. “They want it, and that desire shows in the way they show up every single day. Playing four straight matches in a week is tough, both physically and mentally, but they’ve handled it with grit and maturity.”

The Tigers swept the singles matches, where Maya Lackie, Esther Hopkins, and Eliyah Rooklidge won their matches in straight sets.

Aydan Butler and Maddy Breckel won their doubles match, as did Neela Haywood and Suki Bringman.

“They’re competitive, they support each other, and they’re willing to put in the work,” Kaut said. “It’s special to be part of a team like this.”

Jaya Tummala and Zofia Yantis earned Black Hills’ win in what ended up being the match of the day, as they needed to win two tiebreakers to win their match 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-6 (10-7).

Black Hills will head to W.F. West on Friday, while Centralia (7-1) will be back at home on Monday to face Shelton.
