Timberland Bank, in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, donated a total of $772,000 from the member impact fund to 43 different nonprofits in Western Washington, according to a news release from Timberland Bank.
The nonprofits included Tenino-based Raise for Rowyn, the Winlock-Vader Food Bank, the East Grays Harbor County Food Bank, Lacey Rotary, Lewis County Seniors and more.
The member impact fund is a matching grant program introduced in 2023 that provides $3 for every $1 an eligible bank member donates in order to strengthen communities in targeted areas within the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines’ district.
“We are very grateful to Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines for offering a matching grant program like the Member Impact Fund in Washington,” Timberland Bank CEO Dean Brydon said in the release. “Through this program, we were able to substantially increase contributions to important, local organizations serving the communities of Grays Harbor, Kitsap, Lewis, Pierce and Thurston counties. We have experienced an outpouring of appreciation from the recipients of these grants.”
The program will provide a total of $9 million to eligible nonprofits statewide, according to the release.
“Over the past year, our numbers have more than doubled,” Montesano Food Bank Director Doug Iverson said. “Our expenses have skyrocketed and we are having to purchase more and more product each week. Your donation will more than cover expenses for our Thanksgiving baskets and help on our Christmas baskets.”
“We are thrilled to see grants from our Member Impact Fund having a direct, positive impact on the communities in which our members help advance affordable housing and community development needs in a meaningful way,” Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines CEO Kris Williams added.
Aside from supporting Washington state nonprofits, the member impact fund has also provided financial assistance to nonprofits in Oregon, Montana, Hawaii, North Dakota, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands.
Recipients are selected based on needs for grant funding to support capacity building, or funds to strengthen nonprofits’ abilities to provide affordable housing, job training, financial literacy education, food banks and youth programs.
