An in-season home-and-home series against Eatonville resulted in a season sweep for the Morton-White Pass boys basketball team, when after beating the Cruisers on the road Dec. 10, the Timberwolves repeated the feat just over a week later in Randle, 95-70.
The T-Wolves cracked triple-digits in the first matchup against the Cruisers, and were just short of it again in a victory Monday night with snow falling outside.
“It was a weird day,” MWP coach Chad Cramer said. “We weren’t sure we were gonna play and we did. It was a quiet gym on a snowy night, but we did a good job of finding our own energy and not having to depend on the crowd or band or student section with everything going on.”
The Timberwolves sought the hot hand of big man Josh Salguero to start the game, with the senior pouring in 24 first half points en route to a career-high 34 points for the game, before letting Jake Cournyer and Hunter Hazen ride it out in the second half. The guard duo combined for 25 points in the second half to help the T-Wolves to victory.
“As much as Josh carried us in the first, those two carried us home,” Cramer said.
Cournyer and Hazen ended the night with 21 and 18 points, respectively.
Eatonville was led by a team-high 24 points from Shay Brannon, as the Cruisers hit 13 treys against Morton-White Pass’ defense Monday night.
The Timberwolves will take a 10-day break before returning to game action, playing against Willapa Valley in Menlo before taking on Ilwaco the next day, also in Menlo.
