The Morton-White Pass boys basketball team notched its first league win on Wednesday, topping Winlock 75-61.

Judah Kelly was nearly unstoppable, as he scored 36 points to help the T-Wolves (5-10, 1-7 C2BL) take a 29-point lead into the fourth.

“He played a great game ,” MWP coach Kevin Dunlap said. “He’s a hard kid to stop. He is just a step ahead of everybody else.”

Tony Belgiorno added 20, and seven other Timberwolves recorded at least one basket. Belgiorno led the team with eight rebounds.

While it is the Timberwolves first league win, they are currently in position to make the district tournament. Dunlap said that after a tough front-loaded league schedule, he wanted to “set a precedent” as they get closer to districts.

The Cardinals’ (2-13, 0-10 C2BL) best quarter came in the fourth, when they outscored the T-Wolves 22-7, but the hole was much too big to climb out of.

Fortino Solorio led the way with 16 points, while Lincoln Ruiz was right on his tail with 15. Carter Svenson and Freddy Patching added 12 each.

Morton-White Pass is back on the road on Friday at Toutle Lake, while Winlock heads to Cathlamet to take on Wahkiakum on the same day.
