Timberwolves take two in Raymond

The Morton-White Pass girls basketball team won both of its games in Raymond, first topping Hoquiam 58-29 on Thursday before defeating Naselle 72-26 on Friday.

Against the Grizzlies, the defense led the way early, as the T-Wolves allowed just 12 points while also forcing 18 turnovers to take a 26-12 lead at halftime.

After an even third quarter, Morton-White Pass erased any doubt in the fourth, outscoring the Grizzlies 22-8 in the final frame.

Natalia Armstrong led the way offensively with 18 points and also nabbed five steals. Malia Armstrong was also stout defensively, tallying six steals.

McKenzee Mays scored 11, and coach Tim Roberts noted that what Mays does best doesn’t always show up in the box score.

“She gives us that strong, experienced play you’d expect from a senior,” Roberts said.

Madison Bryant provided an extra spark off the bench, tallying four assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Ryelin Wiedenmann tallied nine points, while Kiera Milla scored seven while also hauling in five rebounds and four steals.

The T-Wolves followed with an even stronger performance on Friday, as they scored the first 13 points of the game against Naselle and took a 46-11 lead into the break.

The Armstrong sisters had another strong outing, as the two combined for 21 points and 10 steals in the first half.

“That really got us going and everyone fed off that,” Roberts said.

Natalia went on to finish with 22 points, eight steals and seven assists, while Malia scored 11, stole six balls and dished out six assists.

Miller had a strong game defensively, tallying seven steals while also scoring 13 and logging four assists.

The T-Wolves were able to go deep into their bench in the second half, and as a result, nine different Timberwolves scored.

“This was a great game for everyone to get solid game time and play long enough stretches to get into the flow and work with each other more,” Roberts said.

Morton-White Pass is now 7-5 overall (and 2-3 in C2BL play), and they’ll host Wahkiakum at White Pass High School on Wednesday.
