Titans come up just short against Spartans

The Pe Ell-Willapa Valley football team came up just short on Friday, as a final throw to the end zone fell incomplete to give Forks a 21-18 victory.

The Titans (5-3, 2-2 C2B North) were able to get on the board first on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Nate Fluke to Blaine King, and Fluke found King again in the second on an 87-yard touchdown to take a 12-7 lead.

Fluke and King were on the same page all night, as King hauled in 10 catches for 236 yards.

PWV’s defense struggled in the first half, as Nate Dahlgren ran in three touchdowns, including a 59-yard scamper that made it 21-12 before the break.

In the second half, both defenses clamped down, with the lone score coming on a short Blake Howard run that got the Titans within three.

For the second time in three weeks, PWV was driving late in an attempt to take the lead, but again they stalled on the plus side of the field. On Friday, they were just inside the red zone in the final two minutes when a fourth down pass to Cody Strozyk fell incomplete.

The Titans wrap up their regular season slate on Thursday, when they’ll host Onalaska in Pe Ell.
