Leading by a run in the seventh of Game 1 and a multi-run cushion early in Game 2, the Pe Ell/Willapa Valley baseball team couldn’t maintain either advantage and were swept by reigning District 4 champs Ilwaco 4-3 and 9-6 on Saturday in Ilwaco.

Despite just seven hits and 15 strikeouts in the opener, PWV (1-2, 0-2 P2BL) broke a 2-2 tie on an RBI groundout by Mauricio Morales in the top of the seventh. It had two outs in the bottom half, but a dropped third strike scored Haddox Hazen and kept the inning alive.

Corbin Johnson stole second and crossed home on Chase Cunningham’s walk-off single. Morales and Max Jarvis, the two pitchers for the Titans that combined to allow eight hits and strike out seven, each had a hit and an RBI at the plate.

In Game 2, Kaeden Blain roped a two-run double in the first and Jarvis launched a two-run home run in the second to take an early 4-0 lead. The Fishermen responded with a five-run third and four more in the fourth. They took advantage of seven walks and two hit by pitches in those frames.

Jarvis finished with three hits and Kash Ruddell recorded two hits and three stolen bases for PWV. It will battle Onalaska in a non-league doubleheader on Monday.
