In the fall, the Toledo football team’s strategy to a historic season was to get off to a hot start in the first quarter.
In the winter, the Toledo boys basketball team seems to be following the same game plan. The Riverhawks scored a whopping 30 points in the first eight minutes against Toutle Lake Friday night and sailed to a 76-34 win.
Toledo used the long ball to take a 30-9 after the first and a 50-20 advantage at halftime, as the Riverhawks splashed seven 3-pointers in the first half. Trevin Gale scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the first half and made three triples, and Adam Kruger added three treys of his own to finish with 13 points along with seven assists and three steals.
Conner Hill scored 12 points and pulled down seven boards, and Eli Weeks tacked on 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Cooper Fallon stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, seven assists, four blocks and two steals.
Toledo (4-2, 3-0 Central 2B League) has two big C2BL matchups next week, first with Rainier coming to town on Tuesday and Napavine visiting on Thursday. A win against Rainier would mark the first 4-0 start for Toledo since 2018-19.
